Under the SME Initiative Energiewende and Climate Protection the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) create networks between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and university professors and students. The idea is that motivated students within the scope of their Bachelor's or Master's thesis assist companies in planning or implementing energy efficiency and climate protection projects.
In order to make maximum use of synergies between universities and the industry and to contribute to quality assurance, the CCIs organize additional seminars to coach students and companies in implementing their projects. The most innovative works will be honoured by the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety and the German Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industryin 2018.
The project aims at identifying possible CO2 savings in companies. It will also contribute to stronger networking between universities and SMEs, because small and medium-sized enterprises often do not have the human resources to establish a well-planned and sustainable cooperation with universities.
This type of collaboration is also an important element in fighting the shortage of qualified employees which already has become relevant factor in some regions.
